With the ability to link air quality data to specific activities occurring in creative spaces, the small device takes out the guesswork and covers the entire air quality spectrum. Incorporating over four sensors, it can enable users to identify which materials, processes, and activities contribute the most to pollution. By documenting this data in a clear timeline, creators are equipped with the tools they need to effectively understand and reduce their environmental impact.

Whether at home, in a studio or in an office, the creative spaces we work in are almost sacred, and the air we breathe indoors is a silent but potent catalyst for creative thinking. “Have you ever wondered if the 3D printer in your studio is silently polluting the air you breathe? What about the dusty haze from the manufacturing room of the latest models or the subtle but potentially harmful emissions from glues and paint?” asks the Ambient Works team. Ambient One addresses these concerns, bridging the gap between busy creatives and a fragmented and often difficult-to-navigate marketplace.
Recently launched on Kickstarter and awarded the Red Dot Award 2024, ambient one was designed by graduates of the Royal College of Art alongside London-based Maker Spaces and makers (Building Bloqs, Fab.Pub, Marie Tricaud and Tom Cecil), who helped in the development process, combining their expertise in air quality development and the Internet of Things. On their experience getting to this point, The co-founders write: “You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” With Ambient One, creatives will be able to monitor and record various pollutants in the air they breathe while receiving personalized advice on how to minimize toxic particles in their environment. ‘Understanding and controlling air quality in creative environments is not just about health; it’s about fostering creativity and increasing productivity, and we’ve seen this first-hand.’ they continued.
