Vietnam requires facial recognition for digital payments


HO CHI MINH CITY — People buying a laptop or paying rent now have to use facial recognition technology in Vietnam, where new payment rules are raising questions about privacy and security.

The Southeast Asian country began requiring biometric data on Monday for any digital transaction of 10 million dong ($390) or more made via bank transfer or e-wallet. To complete transactions, customers would scan their faces via telephone banking applications.
