Samsung is putting the finishing touches on its presentations at next week’s Galaxy Unpacked event, which will include the highly anticipated launch of the Galaxy Z Fold6. There’s still time to get an early look at what the new foldable could offer.
Update: Tuesday, July 2:Samsung has also released some graphic images around the world. While the South Korean company has not officially released images of the upcoming Galaxy foldable phones, this weekend, Samsung activated Galaxy Unpacked campaigns in major cities around the world.
Featuring a mix of pastel hues and angular surfaces, the billboards show a stylised folded surface, clearly referencing the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 smartphones. They also promote Samsung’s Galaxy AI software, a key feature set that has allowed Samsung to claim the top spot among AI smartphones with the Galaxy S24 family in January.
There are hints of the Eiffel Tower in the artwork, too – appropriate for those following tech, as it was the launch site for Galaxy Unpacked, but for the general public, as it’s the home of this year’s Summer Olympics… which have Samsung as the title sponsor. Expect more Olympic-themed marketing around the Fold and Flip phones when they’re unveiled.
New images from well-known tipster Evan Blass show several renders of handsets similar in style to previous marketing images. The squared-off corners, wider cover display, and improved aspect ratio of the internal display are visible.
Interestingly, these renders offer more detail on the critical hinge assembly. From the bulky, exposed hinges of early Z Fold devices, the technology has evolved to enable a design with fewer internal moving parts, a smaller physical size, and greater protection from environmental conditions.
It’s clear from these images that the Z Fold6 has continued the trend of using a smaller hinge assembly; part of that will likely translate into fewer components. Reducing their number is a strategy other foldable makers have had success with.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Fold5 have an IPX8 rating, which certifies that the device is water resistant for 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 m, but does not offer protection against dust and small particles.
If Samsung has found a way to increase the hinge protection to include dust protection, the Galaxy Z Fold6 will have a strong selling point against the current option in the foldable market and a compelling argument for consumers who fear that foldables will remain fragile and fallible.
