Apple’s Phil Schiller to join OpenAI board

Apple has chosen App Store chief and former chief marketing officer Phil Schiller to represent the company on the nonprofit OpenAI board of directors, according to a report by BloombergSchiller will reportedly be given an observer role, meaning he can attend board meetings but cannot vote or act as a director.

Last year, Microsoft also joined the board that controls OpenAI in a non-voting observer role. Having both Apple and Microsoft on OpenAI’s board could make discussing plans with either company more complex. Bloomberg Note: It is quite rare for Apple executives to sit on the boards of companies they partner with.

The edge I reached out to OpenAI and Apple for comment on From Bloomberg Report. We will update this story if we hear back.
