Our annual batch of amazing deals is back in the form of the Steam Summer Sale, offering a host of huge discounts on literally thousands of games. The Witcher and Dragon Age trilogies are cheaper than a Tesco meal deal, but if you look at some equally great JRPGs you’ll find savings just as juicy.
Steam’s list of the top 50 highest-rated Japanese RPGs, based on user reviews, has basically all of them discounted, including multiple Final Fantasies, Like A Dragons, and Personas. The only games on the list that aren’t on sale are Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, which just came out, Final Fantasy 14 (an MMORPG rather than a straight-up JRPG), and Felvidek (more of a Japanese-inspired RPG with turn-based combat), so I’m not going to count those anyway. You’ll see green savings tags all over the list anyway.
Some especially good deals come from the unremade 1997 original Final Fantasy 7 at $4.79, the hit side-scroller Astlibra Revision at $19.99, the leather pants-making sim Monster Hunter Rise at $10, the madcap crime epic Yakuza: Like A Dragon with an 80% discount bringing the price down to $11.99, and the all-time, any-genre great Chrono Trigger, which is an absolute bargain at $7.50.
The first three are also discounted, and are from the same high school game series that befriends a demon: Persona. Steam’s top-rated JRPG, Persona 4 Golden, is 40% off; the jazzy teen rebel Persona 5 Royal is 50% off, and this year’s remake Persona 3 Reload is 30% off.
Multiple entries in our The best JRPGs The list also has discounts, so check out some good recommendations while you’re at it.
