HMD is probably best known for selling Nokia-branded phones in recent years. However, the Finnish company is starting to move away from the Nokia name and sell some phones under its own name.
That doesn’t mean HMD isn’t continuing to leverage Nokia’s assets, though. A series of leaks suggest HMD is working on at least two smartphones that revive the “Fabula” design of Nokia’s Lumia-branded phones.
Fabula’s design language actually first debuted with the Nokia N9, a 2011 smartphone that shipped with the Linux-based MeeGo operating system and an eye-catching design that doesn’t hide the bezels but instead incorporates a colorful body of polycarbonate in the design language.
After Microsoft acquired Nokia’s phone business and began shipping Lumia-branded phones with Windows Phone software, the company adapted the Fabula design language for several new models before eventually giving up on the phones and selling the assets to HMD.
Now it seems that HMD plans to revive the design of at least two new phones. A series of leaks suggest that a new mid-range phone codenamed HMD Nighthawk and a more expensive model called HMD Horizon They are on the way.
According to recent posts by @smashx_60 (HMD_MEME), here’s what to expect from the upcoming phones:
HMD Horizon
- 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor
- 108MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS)
- 4,900 mAh battery
- IP67 water resistance
- 5 years of software updates
- Support for self-repairs (probably via spare parts and iFixit repair guides)

- Unisoc T760 processor
- 8GB RAM
- 128 GB or 256 GB of storage

- 64 MP front camera (with pixel binning for 16 MP photos)
- 4,900 mAh battery
- 3.5mm headphone jack

More details about the Nighthawk phone are available at this point, but it seems the Skyline will likely be a higher-performance phone. It’s expected to sell for around €459 ($491) in Europe.

HMD is already said to be working on a second-generation Skyline that will bring back another classic Nokia Lumia feature: a circular camera setup on the back of the phone that houses four cameras.
