Asus announces its new flagship smartwatch, the VivoWatch 6


Asus isn’t really known for its smartwatches, which is why the Taiwanese company decided in 2017 to remove its ZenWatch line of Android Wear watches. Even though Asus has a pretty decent portfolio of wearables, poor sales pushed the company to stop making certain smartwatches. Nowadays, Asus smartwatches are more fitness-oriented and not as common as the ZenWatch family. Specifically, the VivoWatch line is known for its health tracking features and very decent prices.

Today, Asus announced a new wearable device, the VivoWatch 6. What makes it interesting is that it is the world’s first smartwatch to offer fingertip-based ECG and blood pressure measurements.

With a 1.39-inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass touchscreen with 350 nits maximum brightness, dual-frequency GPS, and a battery that promises up to 14 days of use in power saving mode, the VivoWatch 6 looks like a very decent smartwatch, Not just a wearable health tracking device.

Asus revealed that its VivoWatch 6 is equipped with two sets of medical-grade ECG and PPG sensors. Additionally, the outer ring of the smartwatch features a bioelectrical impedance (BIA) sensor designed to measure body composition.

When you place your thumb and index finger on the sensor on the watch face, it should cause it to display body fat and skeletal muscle percentages, water content, and basal metabolic rate, which sounds amazing.

In addition, Asus’ wonderful device can monitor the balance of the autonomic nervous system and uses heart rate variability as a basis for calculating the relaxation rate. This is good when you want to know your stress levels. And with Body Harmony Analysis, the user will obtain their daily emotional state during certain periods of time.

As far as availability is concerned, Asus did not confirm when the VivoWatch 6 will be available to purchase, but the company did announce that the smartwatch costs £110 / €130 / $140. That’s incredibly cheap for a portable device that does so many things.
